If I stop tracking macros or following a meal plan, won’t I just binge on everything in sight?

The fear of the pendulum swinging completely out of control makes total sense when you have spent years relying on an app or a PDF to tell you what you are “allowed” to eat. Taking away all of these external guardrails at once can truly feel terrifying.

Notice what you are actually afraid of eating. Nobody is worried that they will lose all control on plain oatmeal, steamed broccoli, or a loaf of bread. The fear is almost always pointed directly at the “contraband”: the pastries, the chips, the ice cream, or any “treats” you have spent years categorizing as “bad” or off-limits.

Here is the reality: The rebound binge does not happen because you lack willpower. It happens when you go hours during the day without adequate food, whether from a chaotic schedule or trying to “be good,” while mentally banning your favourite treats. Running on empty while treating certain foods as off-limits creates an intense sense of scarcity. That restriction is what drives the urge to eat everything in sight when the “ban” is lifted.

We do not rip your safety nets away on day one and leave you stranded. We replace external rules with practical and supportive eating skills and systems:

  1. Protecting Baseline Energy First: We make sure you are eating regular, nourishing meals with enough protein, carbohydrates (yes! carbs!), and fibre throughout the day. When you are reliably fed, it is less likely for the primal ravenous pantry monster to emerge at 9 pm.
  2. Systematic Habituation (Removing the Contraband Effect): We do not force you to face a family-sized bag of chips alone. We start by intentionally pairing a single portion of a trigger food with a balanced meal in daylight, giving it your undivided attention. When the ban is lifted and the food no longer feels novel and scarce, its grip loosens and it becomes much easier to self-regulate. Clients are often surprised to discover they actually become disenchanted with foods they previously thought they could never keep in the house.
  3. Building Interoceptive Awareness: You learn to identify subtle biological hunger before it spikes into an urgent crisis, and practice detecting comfortable fullness before you feel physically ill. You learn to recognize what you actually crave and honour it with intention, rather than sneaking it in secret or denying it completely.

You are not moving from a strict diet straight into chaos. You are replacing rigid rules with internal competence that works at any table, anywhere.

Does non-diet coaching mean I have to give up on wanting my body to change?

No. You do not have to pretend you don’t care about your appearance. I will never ask you to swear off aesthetic desires, nor will I force toxic positivity (“Just love your body!”) onto you.

Caring about how you look is completely normal. Expressing yourself through clothing, accessories, tattoos, hair, and makeup is creative and fun. “Caring about how you look” only becomes a problem when it stops being a creative form of self-expression and turns into an all-consuming chore that drains your mental bandwidth.

In this partnership, we use evidence-based psychological tools to build a genuinely positive body image:

  1. Decoupling Self-Worth from the Mirror: It makes sense to want to change your appearance and body in a culture that indiscriminately idolizes thinness. We do not judge that desire. But we will stop using the bathroom scale to evaluate your worth and control how much you “should” eat. You deserve nourishing food, rest, and movement regardless of your size or shape.
  2. From Objectification to Body Functionality: Research consistently demonstrates that people who focus on what their bodies can do (e.g., their physical capacity, senses, creative endeavours) develop a more positive body image and eat far more responsively to their body’s needs. We shift from treating your body like a problem to be fixed, toward viewing it as an instrument that allows you to experience and live your life.
  3. Navigating “Bad Body Image Days” Without Derailing Your Actions: It is unrealistic to look in the mirror every day and feel ecstatic about what you see (that is not what having a positive body image means). Instead, we build the cognitive flexibility to notice uncomfortable body thoughts without treating them like literal truth. You learn to put on clothes that fit your actual body right now, nourish yourself with dependable meals, and carry on with your day without letting “bad body image thoughts” dictate how you take care of yourself.

Wanting to lose weight does not disqualify you from working together. It is something we can support down the road. However, chasing fat loss on top of an unstable foundation is what kept you trapped in diets for years. You cannot safely build a caloric deficit on top of chronic restriction, emotional eating, and poor body image. We will prioritize building reliable meal structure, improving relationship with food, and cultivating body respect. Once your baseline is dependable, you have the skills to make informed, autonomous decisions about body changes without burning your life down in the process.

I am neurodivergent (ADHD, Autistic, or have sensory sensitivities). Will this coaching work for me?

Yes. Standard nutrition coaching advice fails neurodivergent folx because it expects you to plan five days of meals in advance, ignore texture or sensory issues, and eat the exact same grilled chicken and broccoli without getting bored out of your mind. When you hit a wall of exhaustion and cannot face the sensory or cognitive demand of cooking, you end up blaming yourself. In reality, the advice simply ignored how your brain works.

Having worked extensively with neurodivergent individuals through my background as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (you can read more about my clinical background and personal story on my About Angela page), I know that everyone’s experience with neurodivergence is completely unique.. What works for someone who forgets to eat until 4:00 PM during hyperfocus will not work for someone navigating intense masking burnout or severe sensory aversions to food textures.

We do not force you to fit a neurotypical template. We meet you where you are and design eating systems around how your brain and body actually operate:

  1. Expanding Food Variety at Your Own Pace: If you have sensory aversions or sensitivity to certain taste or textures, we never force foods that make you gag or feel distressed. Safe foods are valid foods. We honour the foods that feel safe and predictable, while gently working to widen your nutritional options on your own terms, without pressure or overwhelm.
  2. Default Meals for Low-Energy Days: On days when analysis paralysis hits, your bandwidth is low, and chopping an onion feels like climbing a mountain, you do not need an elaborate recipe. We establish a roster of low-friction “default meals” and convenient safe staples you can grab without overthinking. We cultivate real flexibility and self-compassion so you stay nourished without feeling guilty that you did not make something from scratch.
  3. Support Without the Pressure to Perform: Let us be honest: “peopling” is hard and draining! With asynchronous support, you never have to spend energy masking, showing up “presentable,” or performing on a scheduled video call when your social battery is low. You can send voice notes or written updates in our private portal whenever it suits your flow. And if you do choose to book a live deep-dive call, we do it entirely on your terms: cameras can stay off, you can bring your fidgets, pace around the room, or do whatever helps you feel regulated and comfortable. Our goal is not to “fix” how your brain works. The goal is to build an environment and a routine that makes feeding yourself dependable, peaceful, and accessible.
How come there are no transformation photos? How do I know this works?

Because before-and-after photos are a cheap marketing trick. I refuse to use clients’ bodies as advertising props to trigger your insecurities and convince you to sign up for coaching.

The research in body image supports this. As the National Eating Disorders Association highlights, constantly looking at body photos just makes women feel worse about their bodies. This practice reduces women to merely their physical appearance. They perceive their body as something to be judged, compared and picked apart by others, instead of a vessel that allows them to live and experience life. It reinforces the narrative that thin is better, happier, and healthier.

I will not be a part of this harmful practice.

A before-and-after photo will never show the actual transformation that matters. It cannot show improvement in your energy level, digestion, bloodwork, fitness, or mental peace. It will never show how the “after” photo was achieved. Side-by-side photos don’t show the extreme measures taken, the low energy, skipped dinners with friends, and miserable food obsession. They never show what happens later when unsustainable regimen falls apart.

In this partnership, you know the coaching is working because your daily life shifts in concrete, undeniable ways:

  1. The food noise is quieter or you learn how to manage it better. You can keep cookies or chips in the pantry without hearing them scream your name from the other room.
  2. You get your brain back. You can go to dinner with your family or friends and choose what actually sounds good, instead of spending three days studying the menu online to calculate numbers.
  3. You drop the all-or-nothing panic. When an unexpected party invite shows up or a chaotic week hits, you no longer say, “Well, there is no way I can stick to my plan, YOLO!” You know how to pivot and still take care of yourself.
  4. You live inside your body, not outside it. You stop obsessing over what your stomach looks like from across the room and start caring about your strength, your energy, and having the stamina to live your life.

Camera cannot capture the real changes: a peaceful and calm relationship, feeling supported and nourished in your body, and the unshakeable confidence in your skills.
